The chromium and nickel in stainless steel

Chromium and nickel play an important role in stainless steel. Chromium is mainly corrosion resistance and Nickel plays a role of assistance with Chromium. Now let’s talk about the role of these two in stainless steel:

 

1.Chromium plays a major role in the corrosion resistance of stainless steel.

Chromium is the main element of decision corrosion resistance of stainless steel, because chromium in steel can make the stainless steel produced in the oxidation medium passivation phenomenon that a thin film is formed on the Surface, in this film in the enrichment of chromium in stainless steel. The higher the chromium contents in the stainless steel, the stronger the corrosion resistance. In addition the chromium in stainless steel can strengthen mechanical properties and process performance.

 

 

2.The influence of nickel on stainless steel

Nickel can only be fully manifested when it comes with chromium together. Nickel is an alloying element that forms austenite. When used in conjunction with nickel and chromium ,can make the microstructure of single-phase ferrite to austenite and ferrite structure, after heat treatment, the strength can be improved, so as to make it stronger corrosion resistance and good deformation performance.
